A book won’t import

Try an EPUB or PDF file under 20 MB. Complex or scanned PDFs may not produce readable text. Protected files may not work. Keep your original file; don’t send private books to support unless a safe investigation process is agreed.

Can I read offline?

Books already imported successfully can be read offline. Downloading books, adding a web article, and sending support messages need a connection.

Where is my library?

Skim stores your library locally on this device. It does not have its own account-based sync service. Android platform backup may apply, but it should not replace keeping your original book files.

My place or notes are missing

Keep the app installed and avoid Reset or clearing app storage while investigating. Record the app version and what happened immediately before the issue. Uninstalling can remove your local library.

Article imports say to wait

Try again after a minute. The hosted import service limits repeated requests; people sharing one internet connection can share that allowance. Existing books remain readable.

How do I control analytics?

In Settings → Privacy, turn off Share usage analytics to stop future usage collection. This does not delete events already sent. See the privacy policy for the distinction between local and transmitted data.

How do I clear local data?

Settings → Start over deletes the local library, notes, progress and reader profile. This is destructive. It does not itself delete previously transmitted analytics or copies held in platform backups.

What should a bug report include?

Never send passwords, API keys, a whole personal library or private reading notes.
